Pan-Methodist commission bishops condemn bigotry in aftermath of New Zealand shootings

ATLANTA, Georgia -  Pan-Methodist Commission, comprising six denominations within the tradition of Wesleyan Methodism, has condemned “anti-Muslim, anti-immigrant, anti-Black and anti-Brown bigotry” in the aftermath of the mass shootings that left 50 Muslims dead in Christchurch, New Zealand.

“Therefore, in addition to offering our prayers, we call upon our political leaders in America to stand against this sinful bigotry, to take steps towards eradicating discrimination and to protect the right of asylum for those who seek safety within our country,” the Commission said in a statement, released after its 14th Consultation of Methodist Bishops meeting in Atlanta, Georgia.

The Pan-Methodist Commission is made of The African Methodist Episcopal Church, The African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church, The African Union Methodist Protestant Church, The Christian Methodist Episcopal Church, The Union American Methodist Episcopal Church, and The United Methodist Church.
