The Council of Bishops is offering partial scholarships to seminary students and first-time attenders to participate in the National Workshop on Christian Unity (NWCU) and UMEIT: USA 2023.
The National Workshop on Christian Unity (for the USA) and UMEIT: USA will be held in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, May 8-11, 2023. UMEIT: USA stands for United Methodist Ecumenical and Interreligious Training in the USA.
The (NWCU) has been gathering annually since 1963. Begun by leaders in the Roman Catholic Church, it is an opportunity to learn ecumenical theology, worship together and have fellowship with other Christians in the US.
The UMEIT: USA meets parallel to the NWCU in the same location, allowing for Methodists interested in ecumenism to have further training. Together the NWCU and UMEIT: USA are excellent opportunities for all those interested in ecumenism. Participation for annual conference Christian Unity leaders is strongly recommended, as the event also allows for personal interaction with the Council of Bishops’ ecumenical/interreligious staff.
This partial scholarship application is for seminary students and others who will be attending UMEIT: USA and NWCU for the first time. The scholarship is in the amount of $500 to cover a portion of registration and trip costs. All travel, lodging and meals are the responsibility of the recipient. Acceptance of the scholarship commits the recipient to:
Fill out all requested paperwork,
Attend in person all UMEIT portions of the NWCU
Write a short reflection paper on the event with at least two accompanying photos, and
Turn them in within 2 weeks of the end of the event.
This application is due to Rev. Dr. Jean Hawxhurst at jhawxhurst@umc-cob.org no later than Feb. 28, 2023. The Council of Bishops strongly encourages minority students to apply.
